On-the-Job Training (OJT) Programs
Rationale
The successful holding of the International CEO Forum on SMEs in Kuala Lumpur in 2004 and 2005, under the auspices of the Association of the DFIs in Malaysia (ADFIM), was a “wake-up call” for ADFIAP member-development banks to be more creative and innovative in providing finance to small and medium enterprises (SMEs). A need to focus on capacity-building programs, continuing education/training programs on SMEs as well as providing better consultancy and advisory services, became apparent to these DFIs.
It is in this context that ADFIAP has come up with a concept of organizing short-term SME visitation programs in various countries in the region. Countries that have considered to host these programs are Japan, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam.
Objectives
- To expose participants to international best practices on SME financing by showcasing current approaches and strategies on the various issues that confront SME financing;
- To deepen the participants’ knowledge and understanding of SME management;
- To provide a platform for exchanging views and ideas on SME development and the important roles that DFIs play in the promotion of SME development in their respective countries; and,
- To enhance the participants’ capabilities in providing better consultancy and advisory services for SMEs.
